A unique learning experience

Nunavut Sivuniksavut (NS) offers Inuit youth an unparalleled educational journey, blending college-level academics with the development of Inuit cultural knowledge, communication, independent living, and leadership skills.

The more I learn the more I realize how much knowledge and power our leaders had to be able to make Nunavut a territory not just anyone could do it our leaders were very smart and knowledgeable.

Accredited programs

NS offers two certificate programs:Inuit Studies andAdvanced Inuit Studies. Both programs are accredited through Algonquin College but are delivered by NS instructors at the organization’s own facility in downtown Ottawa.

Nunavut Sivuniksavut continues to honor its mission by fostering a generation of empowered Inuit youth who are ready to embrace their future and make meaningful contributions to their communities and beyond.

The curve — The Inuit Story, is a representation of the course of studies that students follow throughout their first year. It represents the relationship between Inuit and the various groups that have come into their homelands.

Year 1: Inuit Studies (0902X)

Year 1 explores the story of Inuit society from their perspective, focusing on history, land claims, governance, and contemporary issues. Through courses in Inuktut and cultural studies, students examine the evolving Inuit-Canada relationship, connecting to their heritage and gaining tools to shape their future in a transformative academic experience.

Year 2: Advanced Inuit Studies (1902X)

Year 2 builds on the foundation of Year 1, diving deeper into topics like Community Development, Circumpolar Studies, and Land Claim Implementation. This year also introduces university-level courses in Political Science and Northern Public Administration, taught by Carleton University professors. Year 2 challenges students to expand their knowledge and develop leadership skills to contribute to their communities and beyond.
