Financial Assistance for Nunavut Students (FANS)

  • The Confirmation of Acceptance letter should be submitted with your FANS application
  • Application forms can be obtained from the FANS website.
  • When filling out the FANS application, the name of the institution is “Algonquin College - Nunavut Sivuniksavut”
  • Program start date is
  • The name of the program is “Inuit Studies”.
  • This is a 1-year Certificate program.

You will be receiving a form called Student Enrollment Form from FANS- we will be sending you a message on how to complete this form closer to September! You DO NOT need to send this right away to FANS.

Inuit Post-Secondary Education Program (IPSE)

The Inuit Post-Secondary Education Program isnew federal funding for Inuit students. IPSE funding can be used to cover a variety of different costs related to your post-secondary education. This may include tuition, travel, childcare, textbooks, and more. Each Region Inuit Organization is responsible for the funding of this program, as well as has their own application form. Ensure you are completing the right application foryour region. Please contact your RIA office for further questions. See below for more information.

Kitikmeot Inuit Association

For the Kitikmeot region, they provide the following supports:

  • Tuition, Books, Mandatory Fees/Supplies
  • Living Allowance (based on family size)
  • Rent/Residence Support
  • Childcare Support
  • Relocation Support
  • Maximum support is $1000 towards a computer.
  • Internet- we have increased our monthly living allowance in order to accommodate costs such as the internet and we don’t separate it out.

Kivalliq Inuit Association

For the Kivalliq region, they provide the following supports:

  • Tuition
  • Book Costs
  • Childcare
  • Training Allowance
  • Student Fees
  • Internet costs

Kakivak Association

For the Baffin regions, they provide the following supports:

  • Internet (Studying online)- up to $150/month(Must submit receipts for reimbursement)
  • Laptop computer, we can help with a one time purchase of up to $1500. They must purchase and then we will reimburse them with receipts.
  • If they are studying fulltime and have no other sponsors (such as FANS in NU and they usually do not qualify due to residency) then we can support with Training Allowance of $337.50 per week.
  • Childcare- send receipts or invoices
  • Self-Disclosed Disability- Funding for that as well including, cognitive testing, tutoring, counselling etc.
