Nunavut Sivuniksavut recognizes that the ultimate purpose of learning is Inunnguiniq (‘the making of a capable human being’ in Inuktut).
Rights
Every student has the right to learn in a safe and caring environment. Every teacher has the right to teach in a safe environment.
We achieve this through respect (Ikpigusuttiarniq).
For ourselves we: Uvannut
- Are prepared for learning and have all what I need for the class
- Have an attendance of 80% and above
- Are at the right place at the right time
- Complete all work set to the best of our ability
For others we: Asittinnut
- Speak to people how we would want to be spoken to (Ikpigusuqatigiittiarniq)
- Treat people how we would want to be treated (Inuuqatigiittiarniq)
- Recognize that we are all individuals and that we should be treated with understanding and kindness
For NS we: NS-mut:
- Look after our environment (Avatimik Kamattiarniq)
- Represent NS and Inuit with pride
- Keep our school safe and clean by picking up litter and reporting any damage we see
Responsibility
We take responsibility for our actions and accept consequences. We have an “Ajungittugut” mindset in our attitude to learning.
